The Weekend

On the weekend I went home to do a few things and visit the parents.

I tried to leave at noon but of course got stuck at work later than I thought. I just went alone as James couldn't get off work early at all. I stopped at Princess Auto to pick up an angle drill for Dad. It was POURING outside so every farmer in Saskatchewan was at Princess Auto hanging out. I finally got on the road (I went through P.A.) Dad and I started working on our car for a bit. The plan was to do the front brakes and rotors, spark plugs and an oil change. Oh did I mention that the bleeder screw broke off on the one side and it was all rusted so a PA trip was in store for Saturday.

Woke up and had breakfast with Mom & Dad (that was nice). Mom & I started making MORE salsa. (yes, I know this is my third double batch). Dad came in and we needed to get to PA before noon to get another part he needed for a van he was working on. (Darn those busted off bolts in that water pump). Oh well - gave me an excuse to buy dad lunch and Tim Hortons. Yummers. Back home we kept working on the car and had a hugely delicious supper of chicken, potatoes & corn. Thanks Mama.

Got up, breakfast with the parents again then finished off the car with dad and packed up. (Of course Mom sent me off with a care package (chocolate zucchini cake, salsa and a frozen chicken). I went off to Birch Hills to visit the inlaws for a bit. Boy the longer I sat there and visited the more my Hastings care package grew too...carrot salad, dill pickles, soup, pizza stuff, new Hastings honey, and fish. James I hit the jackpot and I'm coming home. :D

Oh by the way did I say how much it rained? Dad's rain guage showed from Wednesday overnight to Sunday morning, 5 INCHES of rain! You thought the Hagen road was crappy before? Think of 2 foot potholes full of water so you can't see they are 6 or 8 inches deep. Yipes.

This is now what the road between Hagen & Birch Hills
looks like - a secondary highway!

YIPES!

This is just the way it has become from the added traffic from heavy trucks etc. It has been bad for years but continues to get worse. This spring it started out with large chunks of asphalt you had to drive around. Then they mulched up the asphalt and put down gravel. This was after 5 inches of rain in 3 and a half days - fall weather?!
